Lowden Guitars unveils exclusive 50th Anniversary Model guitars in recognition of the luthier’s golden anniversary

Lowden Guitars have marked 50 years since founder and luthier George Lowden began producing premium quality guitars from his Northern Ireland workshop with the announcement of an exclusive collection of 50th Anniversary Model guitars.

Hand built in Ireland by Lowden Guitars, the limited-edition release includes 150 guitars – 30 batches of 5 each – featuring Lowden’s 50 Series, 35 Series, Original Series and a very limited selection of Master Series. All 50th Anniversary models will feature a special, limited-edition label, mother of pearl Lowden logo, and 50th inlay at the front of the headstock. As well as an inlay on the heel cap. The 50th Anniversary 35 and 50 Series models will also feature a 1974 logo in abalone on the back of head facing. A cornerstone of the collection is the 50th Bois De Rose, a limited number of 50 Series guitars made with the very finest examples of the beautiful and increasingly rare Bois De Rose tone wood for the back and sides.

Reflecting on Lowden’s trajectory over the past five decades George Lowden said, “When I began making guitars under my own name 50 years ago, I could have never imagined that my guitars would go on to be played by some of the very finest and admired guitarists across genres.

“It has been a real privilege to work with many iconic musicians over the years to create guitars that I hoped would perhaps inspire them as they make music. From up-and-coming guitarists learning their first chords on Lowden guitars and then even seeing our instruments being played in stadiums and arenas, we owe all of Lowden’s progress over the years to our players who have grown to be much more than customers but inspirations, collaborators, supporters and very much part of the Lowden family.”

With a focus on craftsmanship and quality, every Lowden Guitar has a unique voice that develops over time in combination with its player. The same is true for the story of each Lowden Guitar – acoustic or electric – which begins with the provenance of the materials, design and workmanship and carries on through the music that is made with the player.

Marking the continuation of Lowden’s tradition of excellence in guitar making, this collection has been voiced in partnership with Lowden’s founder George Lowden and his son, Aaron Lowden, who in the 50th Anniversary year continues to build guitars while taking on the Managing Director role in Lowden’s County Down workshops after almost two decades of apprenticeship working closely alongside his father.

“I am honoured to have worked alongside my father to recognise such an important milestone in Lowden’s history as we look back on 50 years of Lowden Guitars and forward to another 50 years of quality, innovation and partnership with Lowden players around the world,” added Aaron Lowden, Managing Director at Lowden Guitars.

“Lowden’s continued success and reputation have been built on the foundation of unique design, high quality craftsmanship and an uncompromising selection of tone woods as well as the passion to constantly improve in every aspect of guitar making out of respect for those who will play our guitars. We have built a team of true craftspeople and staff who bring their very best to our workshops each and every day.”

In recognition of their long-standing relationships with Lowden’s global network of dealers and the important role they have played throughout the past 50 years in putting Lowden guitars into the hands of players from diverse backgrounds, styles and genres, a select number of retail partners have been chosen not only to stock these exclusive guitars, but also to give input on the tone woods and specifications of the guitars produced.

“Aaron and I wanted the 50th anniversary models across the series to somehow tell the story of Lowden, so we worked closely with each of our 50th Anniversary retail partners to select the tone woods and specification of 50th models that is right for them and their customers,” added George Lowden. “We are delighted with the final guitars and look forward to them ending up in the hands of their players over the coming months as we continue to celebrate 50 years of Lowden Guitars.”
